Although he responds well to direct suggestion, he responds especially well to metaphorical and symbolic patter. He graciously agreed to be filmed, so we could study his responses. GENERAL INFORMATION The video begins with the client in a highly suggestible state. “The Zone” induction you see in this video was created by me on the spur of the moment. It was neither done from a script nor by rote. It was improvised based on the information given to me by the client whose eyes remain open for most of the induction. The words “zone” and “zoned” are not pre-conditioned suggestions. Although conversational inductions can be done far more subtly than this, for demonstrational purposes, I chose to use embedded suggestions that can be easily noticed by viewers; so Gabriel’s reactions can be easily compared to the implied suggestions. This is an extremely simplified, basic conversational re-induction structure that can be used when …

Good question, seanbro33. Television commercials hypnotize in many different ways. Not all commercials use the same techniques, but the common hypnotic techniques are found in television commercials are (the following is not an exhaustive list): repetition, pattern breaks, shock/surprise, eye fixation, redirecting/distraction, overload (7 +/- 2), verbal and non-verbal suggestion

you are right, i havnt yet mastered NLP for more metaphorical/conversational hypnosis. i like the rapport because i am naturally a sincere person and it fits my personality. there is no need for me to act or memorize anything, and it seems that when a person is genuine the effect is more profound.

yes, those are the only two times… but i have NEVER tried stage hypnosis, only one on one. well, i did do hypnosis at a party once, but everyone went under with no problems.
i believe that EVERYONE can experience DTP (deep trance phenomina is what you mean right?) it is just a matter of how you go about it.

Excellent! I’d like to see you in action on stage. I’m occasionally in the UK. It should be easy (and cheap) to take a flight out to see you while I’m in Europe. It would be great to meet up in person. Please send me your email address via private message, and we’ll stay in touch!

FDA = Food and Drug Administration. Formally it is the USFDA, where US stands for United States.
The FDA is an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services and is responsible for regulating and supervising the safety of foods, drugs, etcetera.

NICE! In Holland (and I guess whole of europe) Placebos are no longer allowed to be prescribed. Ironically since the abolishment of placebos the doctors had become more busy with people coming back with symptoms –some people have suggested themselves that they can only be cured by a pill.
What is the FDA? Federal …… Agency?

I once again agree. When I perform stage hypnosis I am far more pressing then when I do therapy. Even onstage I am considered rather passive to some of the other hypnotists. In my case I get “authority” by having a show which teaches psychology/suggestion/manipulation so people are conditioned to see me as the expert. The see me use suggestion in waking state and thus when they are in “trance” they take the lead themselves. My show is not a standard stage hypnosis show anymore (thank god)!

LOL there’s an anecdote about an entrepreneur that wanted to market a sugar pill called “Placebo.” A brilliant idea! But the FDA would not allow it.

Yes, this is absolutely true if your style is predominantly authoritarian. Your approach to hypnosis seems mainly based on rapport–which is an effective approach, and is often the method of choice used by stage hypnotists. However, for those hypnotists who use a permissive, conversational or metaphorical approach, being seen as an authority is not as important.
When dealing with family and close friends, the rapport is quite complex–it’s more than about being seen as an authority.

Here, in this discussion, when I refer to keeping certain percentages of people on stage, I am referring to keeping only those who have achieved (or will achieve) deep states of hypnosis. My point being that large amounts of the population–larger than commonly thought–can quickly enter deep states of hypnosis when they are first hypnotized.

Yes, thats true. Establishing prestige is not my general approach to hypnosis; however many stage hypnotists (and some clinical hypnotists) effectively use prestige as their main rapport builder. I prefer to focus on knowing that hypnosis works and showing that to the audience.

Again I agree using signals and feeding them back as signs of hypnosis, is a perfect convincer for hypnosis.
Starting hypnotists seem to forget this. Imho there’s no hypnosis and/or trance “just” suggestion. As a hypnomentalist (and BA cognitive/applied psychology) I have studied suggestion and placebo (which I think and with me most scientist in the field) hypnosis is. Nonetheless placebo is often the most powerful medicine and knowing the workings makes hypnosis easy.

You have to keep as many people on stage as you can safely and successfully managed I agree. It is also a message to the audience that you have “tremendous power”.

It depends on how you procede with the show, when you get volunteers up and do the tests you have indeed a greater amount of “successful” people. I initially do tests and the people who are suitable will be put on stage –this is the scientific 10-15 percent of the people.
